I've only had breakfast here a few times, and usually the same thing, biscuits and gravy. The gravy is good, not too peppery or bland. It is definitely more "floury" than most places, but it's not a bad thing. It's also a little thinner than most, though definitely not watery, still creamy and satisfying. Thin and floury? How can that be? I don' t know, it just is, it tastes like flour. The biscuits were fresh and soft. The eggs are cooked well, the sausage wasn't burnt, and the OJ didn't give me heartburn. Despite the steady traffic and sometimes minor wait, our service has always been satisfactory. Nothing special, just a decent place for food.

I went to Cascone's for the first time last week while enjoying a three day weekend. I recently moved to the Rivermarket area and have been looking for some locally owned places that serve great food at a great price. A lot of locals had recommend Cascone's and from their busy window front each morning, I knew it would be a sure bet. I ordered the Italian Bread French Toast, it was a great price and perfect on the stomach! The servers were friendly, food fast and loved feeling like I was sitting in a neighborhood dinner that prides itself on loyal customers and family values. I will be back and will take anyone looking for a great breakfast. Next time you hit the City Market, stop by for breakfast before hand and I promise you won't be disappointed!

Best little diner in the Kansas City area! Love the Italian toast and the kitschy atmosphere.

My husband and I just ate at Cascone's Grill for breakfast yesterday before heading to the city market. Upon getting there you could tell it was a popular place due to the packet restaurant and crowd waiting. We only waited 25 minutes at the pike of the rush. We did enjoy looking at all the photo's around the shop and seeing all the workers running around, while waiting. Once seated they got everything out to us amazingly fast. I got the biscuits and gravy and my husband got the Italian French Toast. I loved my biscuits and gravy but I'd have to say the must have on our table was French Toast. It was amazing. Great place to grab breakfast before enjoying the City Market. Tip: get there before 9:30am on Saturdays and the wait will be very small. Tried the Sammy Sandwich and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!

Before our trip to the City Market, six of us headed to Cascone's Grill for a big breakfast. An old fashioned diner, I was really excited to eat a huge breakie before the full day of sightseeing. I prefer ham and eggs when I go to a diner so that it what I ordered. My meal came with hash browns. Not a fan of potatoes so I swapped those for some bites of pancakes from my friend's daughter. The meal was REALLY cheap. Coming from Chicago, I was really surprised because there is no way that you could get a breakfast as cheap as this so close to a major tourist attraction. It was a great start to our day!

I was searching the city market area ever so deeply for a good comfort food place. As soon as I saw Cascone's Grill with the Italian flag hanging in the window and the huge crowd of people at the counter, I was hooked. I tried this place on a whim and without even reading reviews first! Whew, the meatball sandwich made me so content and sleepy. It is first, and foremost, a diner. The decor and the silver lined counter are just the beginning. My group sat down and ordered and our food was there in a flash. This was one of the best meatball sandwiches I have ever had. I love meatballs, and no one's meatballs come close to Cascone's Grill. I scarfed the entire sandwich in less than 15 minutes. The sandwich bread was an actual Italian roll and the cheese was perfectly melted on the bottom of the sandwich, which by the way, is the true and correct way to construct a meatball sandwich. Melted cheese on top is a no no. The sauce was magnificent and the whole meal was $7. I loved all the old pictures of ma and pa Cascone out front in 1950 too. This place impressed me, and that doesn't happen often.

Now I understand why this place is known for their breakfast! Again, I visited a new place for brunch and was not disappointed at all. We were lucky enough not to have a very ling wait but I've heard it can be out the door during their breakfast & brunch times on the weekend. We were sat next to a booth by the counter where we could tell immediatly that this was a family owned/family oriented place and it had a great feel, They are also very reasonibly priced and you get a lot of food! My friend ordered the sausage and cheese omelette with potatoes and toast and the omelette was huge yes, but not over or under cooked and he finished the whole thing. I ordered the italian steak and eggs with potatoes since they seem to be known for their italian steak. It came out with a side of their marinara sauce which I used to dip my steak and eggs in and yes, it was yummy! After breakfast, take a walk around the rivermarket and pick up some fresh produce or site see.

Very casual breakfast joint in the River Market area, across the street from the farmer's market. Plenty of regular customers and after 9 a.m. it does get crowded on Saturday morning, so there can be a wait. Like a diner, with a long counter plus maybe 15 tables, and the service is fast and good. Decent hash browns. Waitresses who might call you Babe, or Hon as they refill your coffee. Update, 12/2010 : The pancakes are pretty awful. : (

This is THE place for a diner breakfast. I love the toasted Italian bread, hash browns, eggs, and Italian sausage. All served with a bowl of red sauce on the side. Coffee. Done. It is an old fashioned diner that can't be beat.

Keep in mind, I've only been for breakfast, so my review is ENTIRELY based on the AM meal. My family and I have been going to Cascone's for years. One of the best activities we've done as a family is getting up early on Saturday mornings and heading down to Cascone's and the City Market. My father is our ringleader and always makes sure we arrive at Cascone's before 800 am because after 800 am its hard to get a seat! The coffee here is the best in town. I am not sure what they do differently, but Cascone's does coffee very well. There's no fancy schmancy lattes or cappuccinos here, just the good old fresh brewed kind and it is divine. Do yourself a favor and order a cup! Service is incredibly prompt and always friendly. It seems like we are in a small town diner instead of smack dab in the middle of the city. Breakfast is cooked right behind the counter and you can just feel the family vibe. Now for the food, yum! The hash browns are great; I like mine crispy and they have no problem doing this for me every time. The french toast on that thick italian bread...oh just sinful. The rest of my family comes for the Italian Sausage; they all agree it is scrumptious! There's nothing at all fancy about this place, but it should be the first choice for a delicious family breakfast.

My wife and I have been coming to Cascone's on 5th every Saturday morning for, oh, about the last 7 or 8 years. At least when we're in town! We met at the location across the street, and had our first date there over brunch. I also asked her to marry me there! Cascone's is a no-frills, good old fashioned diner. They do great breakfasts, and darn good fried chicken, which I have had for breakfast more than once! This is also the only place in town that I know of that serves full-blown pig hocks for breakfast. (If you don't know what that is, you've never been a farmer!) Like I said, it's no frills... if you want some dill on your eggs, you had better bring some in a baggie! During the summers, it's extremely busy, especially on Saturdays, so be prepared to wait most times. (Although, sometimes you can just walk right in and get seated! It's just luck.) One of our favorite places, and a tradition in our marriage.

Very Mom & Pop'ish atmosphere. Someplace to go for a good homecooked breakfast. The waitstaff was very friendly and the wait time was not too bad. The food was great. Their Italian Sausage is awesome. I haven't been for lunch, but the breakfast has me hooked!

When my date said he was going to take me to Cascone's, I got all excited thinking it was the OTHER Cascone's...as in the Italian restaurant. Boy....was I mistaken!! Clean. Prompt service. It had a throw-back feel to some diner in the days of yesteryear. I had the pot roast, which was the special, and it was pretty good. My date had an Italian-type sandwich that he seemed to like. The prices were reasonable. Overall, a good place for a casual meal. Definitely not a romantic type setting, and not ideal for a date.
